Career Paths You Can Take with a Political Science Degree

Political science degrees train students in many of the nuances of how governments operate and the functions that they perform. The knowledge that is gained while studying for a political science degree can be applied to work in a number of fields and will familiarize students with the theory and knowledge required to understand how government operates at the federal, state, and local levels.

Political science degrees aren’t just useful for those who plan to enter the field of politics as politicians, they are an excellent entry point to a number of different career paths. The advent of online degrees has seen an uptick in the number of students pursuing political science degrees, as they have in a number of subject areas. Pursuing an online political science masters is an excellent first step towards a career in any of the following fields.

Government and Advocacy Jobs

There’s an endless array of government jobs which are open to political science graduates. These range from city planning and legislative advisement, right up to CIA intelligence work. Political science is a valuable degree for virtually all areas of government. The United States Bureau of Statistics estimates that as many as 55% of political scientists end up working for the government at the federal level.

Many political science graduates also opt for jobs as advocates for government, again this can happen at the federal, state, or local levels. Some choose to advocate for specific causes, while others undertake to advocate generally for government policy. In order to perform this function effectively, applicants will need a thorough understanding of the nuances of how government operates at the relevant level.

Law Careers

There are numerous law careers besides being a lawyer, and most of these require a degree of understanding of how government operates. A full and comprehensive understanding of the legal system in the United States requires a firm grasp of the political theories which underpin the American system of government. Being able to interpret these political ideas and analyze them in the context of the US legal system is crucial to many legal careers.

In order to practice law as a career, students will need to also complete a relevant law qualification, however by gaining a good grounding in the political science aspects first they will be well positioned to do so when the time comes.

Lobbyist

Lobbyists are a controversial, yet essential, component of the American political system. Those who have a background will find that they have access to the most lucrative lobbying positions, whether they are acting on behalf of private entities of government organizations. Lobbyists work closely with a variety of individuals and organizations with the intent of representing their interests to others. Accessing lobbying jobs is one of the most lucrative careers that can be pursued with an online masters in political science.

Political science really does open up a lot of career paths as you can see from those above!

Forensic Nursing: A Career Guide

Source

Do you want to be in demand? Do you care for the people and children of the world? Do you know what the statistics in the United States are around sexual assault and abuse? If this sounds like you, let us show you why you need to enroll in an online nursing program , why you need to answer the call and be there to assist the children and the adults, even the elderly who are helpless, lost and afraid, stuck in a continuous motion of traumatic memories.

The Statistics

The United States alone owns a vicious statistic that promises every 98 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted. Every eight minutes, an American child is sexually assaulted. Only six out of every 1,000 perpetrators will see the inside of a prison cell. Unfair? Shocking? Violence is all around you. Wait, let us look at the bigger picture: 35% of women worldwide have experienced some form of sexual abuse, or will be a victim in their lifetime. So, what does this have to do with you completing your DNP or FNP online?

Why You Should Be Studying a DNP

It has everything to do with you. If you have any feeling toward the statistics mentioned, then you have it in your power to make a difference. A forensic nurse is an angel that every victim of any abuse or trauma looks for and there are not enough to go around. They are the ones who take the photographs, collect vital evidence, console the victims and bring them back to a state of calm. After completing an online DNP program, you will be that angel.

A forensic nurse has the knowledge and the logical know-how as to whether a victim was abused or assaulted, or if it was from their own doing or a plot that no one has considered. A forensic nurse is the one to rescue the little children of this world and ensure that they do not grow up repeating the same infidelities that were done to them. A forensic nurse can and usually is the one who makes the difference in the witness box in the courtroom and puts the pedophiles behind bars and ensures that they remain there to be rehabilitated. A forensic nurse understands the criminal dark side of this planet and he/she fights to keep it at bay. A forensic nurse is a superhero and there are simply not enough to fight the statistics that show up on the front pages or on our doorsteps.

It’s Not Just a Career, It’s a Calling

If you are reading this article, then it may very well be that you should answer the call of the forensic nurse and enroll in your online doctor of nursing. You can study for this program 100% online. It is rated internationally by Forbes to be in the top 30 of all online programs. You will not only be entering a life-changing, lucrative path, but you will be healing the world and making a difference where it really matters.

Answer the call and become the forensic nurse that helps victims.

How to Spot a Military Imposter

Many men and women bravely serve the United States Armed Forces, today and in years gone by. However, that is a growing and troubling phenomenon of people who have never served in the military claiming that they are veterans or that they are currently active duty military. The term used for this type of duplicitous and despicable practice is called stolen valor. People do this for many reasons, none of which are honorable in the least.

Why Are People Impersonating Members of the Military?

Let’s look at some of the reasons there seem to be more and more people today pretending that they were or are in the military. One of the reasons is because it tends to put people at ease when they are dealing with someone from the military who is in uniform. People expect them to be honest, so when someone says they are collecting money for a charity, for example, people are more likely to donate. Of course, with these impersonators, the only place that money is going is into their pocket.

Some people are looking for discounts, and they will even go so far as to create fraudulent military ID cards. They use these cards to help with other types of scams, as well.

There are others who set out to meet people online, supposedly for the purpose of looking for a romance. They speak with the other party over the web, and then they start to tell their sob story, talking about how they aren’t going to be able to make it home for leave or that they need to have some money to get out of a bad situation because they haven’t been paid yet.

ArmyWife101.com offers information on this type of military catfishing to help people stay safe when they are dealing with supposed service members on the Internet. It is important to verify everything, and never send money to someone who claims they need it to get home from a combat zone. The military pays for this transportation.

How Can You Tell the Imposters Apart?

Sometimes, these military imposters are not just online. Sometimes you will see them in person. They might be at a parade, walking through a store, or asking for donations for a “charity”, for example. Maybe they are sitting next to you in a bar and they start talking. How do you know who is telling the truth?

There are several things you can look for and listen for to help identify imposters, according to some information collected by experts on Military1.com. First, you can listen for the way they speak. Do they know the correct terminology and jargon for their branch of service and their rating or job in the service?

Do they know the right bases, forts, or camps that they should know based on the stories they are trying to tell? Do they claim to be in military intelligence or Special Forces? Do they understand rank? Do the medals and awards they are wearing add up for their service? Are they wearing the uniform correctly?

Many people in the military can spot the fakes without too much trouble. However, civilians do not always have the knowledge needed. Always be careful and verify any stories that sound fishy.

Teaching Quotes To Keep You On Point

When I first started my teaching career, I regularly had crises of faith about my abilities and my focus in terms of how I could best teach my students. I will always remember a conversation I had with the inspiration Kevin Rolle, a man who is Vice President in Colorado State University, although he was VP for student affairs back then, and a man who offered my some fantastic advice. One of the most important pieces of advice which I picked up from Kevin was to surround myself with positivity by way of famous quotes about teaching. I scoffed at the idea at first but after giving it a go, it is something which has stayed with me throughout my career. The following quotes may not make you a better teacher, but they will put you in the best frame of mind to be the best teacher that you can be.

“Wisdom cannot be imparted. Wisdom that a wise man attempts to impart always sounds like foolishness to someone else … Knowledge can be communicated, but not wisdom. One can find it, live it, do wonders through it, but one cannot communicate and teach it.”

― Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha

“If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up people together to collect wood and don’t assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea.”

― Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

“I never teach my pupils, I only attempt to provide the conditions in which they can learn.”

― Albert Einstein

“Bodily exercise, when compulsory, does no harm to the body; but knowledge which is acquired under compulsion obtains no hold on the mind.”

― Plato, The Republic

“The object of teaching a child is to enable him to get along without a teacher.”

― Elbert Hubbard

“Learning is finding out what you already know. Doing is demonstrating that you know it. Teaching is reminding others that they know just as well as you. You are all learners, doers, teachers.”

― Richard Bach

“Give the pupils something to do, not something to learn; and the doing is of such a nature as to demand thinking; learning naturally results.”

― John Dewey

“The word “education” comes from the root e from ex, out, and duco, I lead. It means a leading out. To me education is a leading out of what is already there in the pupil’s soul.”

― Muriel Spark

“The expression ‘Those who can’t do, teach’ is a curious one, because if you look at the world , you’ll see that teachers aren’t particularly worse at doing things than anyone else, so perhaps the expression might be better worded as ‘nobody can do anything”

― Lemony Snicket

“The whole art of teaching is only the art of awakening the natural curiosity of the mind for the purpose of satisfying it afterwards.”

― Anatole France

And there you have it, feel free to take some of these quotes, put them on your wall and use them to keep you focused on being the best teacher that you can be.

Ideas to Help Your Script Writing

Have you always fancied yourself as the next Spielberg or Nolan? Filmmaking is a great way to express your artistic values and is a great thing to do as a hobby or can even be a possible career option.  I have picked up some tips from the time that I have been working with short films.  I have been talking recently with my good friend and film buff Abhishek Gattani about these tips and I have decided to put them to paper to help any other budding filmmakers.

Ideas

To be honest ideas are probably what you will struggle least with.  From what I gather if you are wanting to be a filmmaker you will have some form of creative flair waiting to be applied.  The one tip that I can mention on this is taking note for every idea you have.  What I tend to do is keep a file in the notes on my phone so whenever an idea springs to mind, I take a quick note so I can revisit it when I have time to.  Doing this stops ideas from getting hazy, a lot of the time when the idea first comes to you, you are certain you won’t forget it.  The ideas will pile up too, so when it comes to script writing if you are working with one but it doesn’t really work out, you have another one to fall back to.  Make sure you don’t feel deflated if an idea doesn’t translate onto the page well, not every idea is going to be a home run.

Bullet pointing

Ok so you have your idea and are happy with it, what I like to do before jumping straight into writing the script is doing some good old fashioned bulled pointing.  This is a process that helps me massively when it comes around to writing as it gives you an arc to follow.  Think of names for your characters, make some notes and start with establishing the character development by bullet pointing their personality traits etc.  After that I always bullet point the ideas I have for screen progression, start with scene one and how you would like the film to start (it can be more than one idea for the scene) and progress through to the end.  You will end up with so many different ideas for the scene but this is where you start your plot development, you have a start and an end so you need to fill in the spaces in between.  A scripture jigsaw puzzle if you like, you have everything that is needed you just need to put it all together.

Dialogue

Undoubtedly the hardest thing I think about script writing is dialogue.  What I have noticed when reading scripts is that it is a lot harder that you would think to write down ‘how’ people speak.  A lot of the time it looks great on paper but when it comes to actually saying it, it doesn’t sound quite right.  So when you are writing your dialogue, say it out loud.  Does it sound right? As daft as it sounds do people actually speak like that?

Organise and Colour Co-ordinate

This is really down to personal preference, I know a lot of people who don’t do this but for me it makes things a hell of a lot easier.  When I get to writing the script I use as different coloured ink for each scene I am working on.  The only reason I do this is so I can easily find where I need to be.  For example if I have a list of ideas, all ideas will be co-ordinated to the colour scheme being used for scene the idea is for.  You will obtain so many notes so this is an ideal way to keep on top of it and speed up the writing process.

What Skills You Need To Work For Jeunesse Global

There are a hg number of ways in which you can make money from home to supplement or wholly replace your income. Around 4 years ago this was exactly the kind of opportunity that I was looking for and a friend of mine was working for a company called Jeunesse Global. This firm sells the most amazing beauty and skincare products and their business model is much like that of Avon or Ann Summers. The idea when working for Jeunesse is that you sell to clients, and then seek to enlist your very own team of sellers. There are some big profits to be made when working in this field, but you must have the skills to be able to do that. Let’s take a look at what kind of skills you will require if you want to make good money selling Jeunesse products.

Ability to Sell

Before you can even start thinking about putting a team together, you must ahem cut your teeth in the selling side of these products. In order to be a good sales person you must be outgoing, convincing, have great communication skills and more importantly, always be looking to upsell your customers. The bread and butter of working with Jeunesse is selling and if you can do this, you’ll be on the way to making much more money.

Spotting Talent

Getting people to sell for you and with you is not just about asking any Tom, Dick or Harry to work with you, it is about getting the right people in place. Bear in mind that once someone starts selling as part of your team, they will be responsible for the commissions which you make, and you will also need to spend time with them to help them improve. With this in mind, it is vital that the people in your team are the right people for the job.

Organisational Skills

One must be highly organised if they are going to sell for Jeunesse as there is a huge amount going on at all times. When someone places their order you’ll have to look after the admin, deliver products when they arrive and be able to manage how you plan to make future sales. Once you do have a team under you, the need for organisation is even higher and managing your team and your business takes a great deal of time and attention.

Ambition

The business model that companies like Jeunesse have really make it easy for their workers to reach the top and i you are looking to make good money from this business, you will need ambition. Some people are happy selling but if you are looking to make a good living, the key is to put together a large team of sales people that you can trust to keep bringing in results. Don’t rest on your laurels, you need to keep striving, keep building the team and keep standards high if you want to  be successful with this company.

Larry Polhill Cafe Valley Helps New Graduates Find the Perfect Job

Source

When you enroll in a degree program, you will do that because you hope to find a great job at the end of it. Hence, it is very important that you know how to make sure you know what to do in order to find a good job. Larry Polhill Cafe Valley has made it his business to help young people do exactly that. To him, it is irrelevant whether someone wants to be Director of Investors at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), President of APFC, or a waiter at a local Sloppy Joe’s. It is about people knowing what they want and where to go to get it.

Larry Polhill Cafe Valley on Recruitment Agencies

A lot of students will register with a recruitment agency hoping to find a job. Companies, meanwhile, list their jobs with these companies, which means they are certainly a good option. However, it is very important that you find a recruitment agency that offers jobs in the sector you are interested in, as well as in the geographical area that you are interested in. You can also always register with online agencies, which is a lot more convenient, not in the least because it means your resume is listed and visible to prospective employers.

The Importance of an Up to Date Resume

If you choose to send your resume to a recruitment agency, then it is absolutely vital that it is fully up to date. All your educational information should be listed on there, as should any work experience you have. This includes internships, volunteer work, and jobs you had at college. You will also have to provide at least two references, preferably an academic one and a professional one. This will ensure that your credentials can be said.

Having the Right Attitude

If you do find yourself invited to an interview, then you have to make sure that you have a good attitude. “Attitude” is a soft skill and complex to define, not in the least because different companies will look for different things. This is also why you have to do your research about the company so that you understand their company culture and how you could fit into that. You would be surprise at how important attitude is, with research showing that companies class it as a priority issue.

Being Prepared

Of course, it is also vital that you properly prepare yourself before you go to interview. Look up the types of questions you are likely to receive and prepare yourself for this. The best way to anticipate the questions is by looking into what the company is, what its mission statement is, how they work, who they work with, and so on. The questions will always relate to how you can perform a certain job while keeping the values of the business at the forefront of what you do. But you also have to be prepared to sell yourself, demonstrating that you are the perfect candidate.

Jay Eitner Looks at Making Science Education Fun

Source

All schools in the country have to teach their pupils science. This is because we need science to understand our existence. Everything around us is based on science in some way. Indeed, even our sleep patterns are scientifically determined! Hence, it is vital that we learn as much as we can about science. That said, some people do not feel they are missing out when they don’t understand how rain falls from clouds. However, simply knowing that rain falls from clouds is a little bit of science. Jay Eitner is committed to making sure all young people in New Jersey receive a solid science education.

Jay Eitner Makes Science Fun

It is clear that all children should receive a good scientific foundation when they are in school. However, nobody really agrees on how this should be delivered. That vast majority of schools in New Jersey will use hands-on methods, enabling students to take part in experiments. This is a great way for young people to really experience science and it is far more likely to grab their attention than what reading from a textbook will. Indeed, studies (science!) have shown that knowledge retention is far greater through this form of learning.

There are a number of reasons why most young people do better at retaining knowledge if they take part in scientific experiments. Those include:

  1. That it is the perfect way for visual learners to get to know a subject. Those are the children who need demonstrations or pictures if they are to understand and remember new things. They find it very hard to retain words and link those to facts. Yet, when something is specifically demonstrated to them, or they have a visual idea of what is happening, they finally understand it. Something understood is also something remembered. Because science is a very visual subject, a lot of young people remember the things that they learn.
  2. That it engages everybody in the science experiment themselves. Nobody is able to quickly skim over the texts and hope for the best during a test, or to cram all the necessary knowledge in the night before the exam. Rather, everybody has to participate and everybody is able to make mistakes and to learn from them. This means students must get to understand the science, or things will start to go wrong. Indeed, in most cases, various experiments will be complete failures first.
  3. That it makes students feel more accomplished. When the experiment works the way they thought it would, or the way the teacher asked them to, they will feel a true sense of pride. That type of psychological reward is huge and students are likely to want to complete more and more experiments in order to replicate that feeling. Jay Eitner believes that if this is properly nurtured, students will soon start to come up with their own ideas for scientific experiments.

Many people believe that science is a dry subject. In reality, however, it is a lot of fun – if it is delivered properly.

5 Study Hacks To Help You Pass Your Exam

Exam season. Whatever the stage of education you’re at, be it at college or taking on online course such as rn to bsn san antonio, exams are never fondly welcomed. But being prepared is always key, so here are some exam hacks to help get you through this time.

Take regular breaks.

This is an important one for many reasons. Sitting in front of a computer or at a desk for prolonged periods of time isn’t good for anyone so make sure that you give yourself regular breaks between studying. Actually, get up from where you are, walk away from the books, computer, notes; go and get a drink or a snack or even some fresh air. This will be beneficial for a few reasons. It will give your eyes and brain a break from concentrating and, therefore increase your productivity when you return to study. Your body will benefit from the change in position and posture. Sometimes during exam preparation, you can hit a metaphorical wall, feeling like you can’t think of anything else to say or struggling to grasp a concept, so giving your mind a break and change of scenery can sometimes help to reboot.

Read up on the subject.

Go back through all the information you have written down from previous classes, read through text books you own and take some new ones out of the library. Have a look online, but be careful with information taken from the internet that it comes from a reliable and credible source.

Make flash cards/songs/alliterations.

Using different study techniques such as; different coloured pens to break up the information, the use of diagrams, alliterations of key points, or even forming them into a memorable tune are all proven methods of helping important information stick. Re-writing the key information into clear and concise points and putting it onto small flash cards can help too. Repetition is an extremely useful tool when it comes to preparing for an exam.

Focus.

Take yourself away from all busy areas of the house, school, college or wherever. Find a nice, quiet spot, libraries are perfect as all those books are right to hand as well. Turn off your mobile phone and do not log onto any social media accounts. Nothing that vital is going to be missed in the few hours you’re spending doing some extremely important revision. Stop procrastinating. Focus your brain to the task in hand and concentrate. If you can do all of this, things will get done a lot quicker which is definitely a bonus in my eyes!

Timetable.

Creating a timetable can help manage your time to its full potential. If you have several subjects to study for you can draw up a timetable so that each one gets an equal amount of focus. Also, another perk to making a timetable is that when you have allotted specific amounts of time to certain things, you’re more likely to utilise that time to the maximum. It’s a smaller window of time to concentrate on. A timetable can also allow you to schedule in your breaks and time off from studying, you’re basically rewarding 2 hours of study time with a half an hour coffee and catch up on social media break. But having these clear pockets of time will allow you to make much better use of it rather than simply bumbling along, not knowing which subject to look at next and, therefore, wasting time.

You can do this. Preparation is most definitely the key to success.
