There was one time when fitness trackers were glorified… because it was committed to counting your steps! With time, there were mere fitness tracker borrowed features from running watches (development and marketing, you see…) without losing the core functions. But in 2019, the ace of fitness bands got a name – Huawei Fitness Band 3 Pro.
This one tracks your steps and sleep but doesn’t forget your heart rate. It comes with a built-in GPS, for outdoor cycling and runs. It’s even waterproof! You get all of the Huawei Fitness Band 3 Pro at £80, reasonable for a professionally branded gadget. If you’re including this band in your bucket list for 2019, then here’s what you need to know;
The Design
The fitness band is following the same design cues as that of smartphones. It comes with an AMOLED touch screen, charging ports at the back and a heart rate sensor. There are no physical buttons and is available in a stylish dark blue. With the glass screen and metal frame around the screen, expect some degree of fanciness when you’ll run around with the band on your hand! The straps are also replaceable, so you can customise your band at will!
The no-button interface triggered some sceptics as well. What happens when you’re sweating, running in the rain or swimming? Will the sensors on the screen manage to track the finger movements? It might be a hassle to get the band to follow you! Plus, the plugs on the straps are so hard that it won’t come off without a fight or without leaving a nail or two.
The Performance
The band connects to your phone and you might feel your wrist occasionally buss with notifications if enabled. You may read your messages without the need to consult your phone. Otherwise, it will stay silent and only turn on when you make brisk movements with your wrist.
The tracker software is fairly basic. There’re pages for steps, sleep, workout, heart rate and messages. No music and no guided breathing exercise. One area that it excels in is the Battery Life. Despite having a 10mAh cell powering, it still manages to keep the battery for up to one week!
Many have criticised the absence of automatic brightness and its sensitivity. You might be sound asleep and all you remember seeing is a flash of bright light dazing your sight for a minute… and it was at 2 am! Just because you moved your hand when sleeping, you now have to spend the day with a migraine!
The App
When you use Huawei Band 3 Pro, you need to make use of Huawei Health. It’s available on Play Store and you need to have it to save your progress on Cloud. It’s nice to see many inventions in digital versions. Even landbased casinos are resorting to onlineplatform these days. Access Regal Wins, an online casino site that offers a range of slots games. You might enjoy some adventures in real life with your band but that’s made possible online as well. Thanks to the themed slots. Play Adventure slots via the device of your choice and make the most out of Regal Wins.
The Health App does not come with a web interface. As such, any sense of competition with your friends who don’t use the app is lost.
The Verdict
It’s hard to say that Huawei Band 3 Pro is not a nice fitness tracker. It comes with all the features required for a good one! If we compare the prices, the features and the advantages that you might have, the Huawei Band is surely a good deal.
